What is Public Key Infrastructure?

Public Key Infrastructure or PKI is a solution created, where instead of using a Username and Password to authenticate, signed certificates and hashes are used for identification. A PKI relies on asymmetric encryption, which utilizes private and public keys. A PKI helps us have a highly secure network where everyone, including all computers, applications, and devices, are issued a certificate.

Every network has their own set of certificates and keys, and PKI has the job of keeping them secure, viable, and trusted. When the infrastructure is being set up, all the policies and software used for generating and verifying those certificates are the pillars of our PKI infrastructure.
